Activity: AI in Action
Description: In this activity, participants will have the opportunity to interact with and observe two distinct AI systems in action. The first, Google's "Quick Draw," is an AI experiment that guesses what you're drawing in real-time. The second, Visage Technologies' Face Recognition, uses advanced algorithms to detect and recognize human faces. By engaging with these systems, participants will gain firsthand experience of AI's capabilities and its underlying mechanisms.
Directions:
Google's Quick Draw:
Navigate to the Quick Draw website
Follow the on-screen instructions to start drawing the object prompted.
As you draw, observe how the AI system tries to guess your drawing in real-time.
Complete a few drawings to get a feel for how the system operates.
if you'd like a lesson with a slide deck to introduce your students to important ideas from this tools.
Visage Face Recognition:
Navigate to the Visage Technologies demo or platform (Note: Ensure you have access or permissions as needed).
If using a demo, follow the on-screen instructions to initiate the face recognition process.
Observe how the system detects and possibly recognizes faces, noting any additional data or attributes it provides (e.g., age estimation, emotion detection).
In what ways might this be a way to introduce conversations about bias in AI?
Reflection & Discussion:
After interacting with both systems, take a moment to reflect on your experiences.
Prepare to discuss the following questions with the group:
What is the human-like action taking place here?
What is data in this example?
How do you think it was trained?
Note: Ensure you have a stable internet connection and allow necessary permissions (like camera access for Visage) for the best experience.
